We seek a dynamic and engaging individual who can contribute to the growth of an impactful global Food Systems and Inclusive Growth (FSIG) portfolio to accelerate positive changes in food systems and reduce poverty.

In addition to generating new opportunities, the role will contribute significant leadership to the highly innovative African Food Fellowship, thereby strengthening its operational delivery and potential for expansion.

We are looking for the successful candidate to demonstrate a proven track record with the following essential professional skills and experience:

  • Innovative collaboration experience including cross-sector and public-private collaboration with good networking capabilities.
  • Excellent project management experience.
  • Proven team and people management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong and relevant thematic experience including in food and agriculture systems, small business entrepreneurship and economic inclusion (including with youth).
  • Proven business development track record with diverse clients/funders.

The following are desirable skills and experience:

  • Consulting experience.
  • Living and working in East Africa.
  • Language skills.

Role details

  1. Salary: The position comes with an attractive compensation package dependent on skills and experience broadly in the range of GBP 50,000–60,000 per annum.
  2. Length: Two-year fixed-term position. Renewable for a second two-year fixed term and a final one-year fixed term. (Potentially 5-year fixed-term.)
  3. Benefits: Our standard company-wide international health insurance plan, retirement benefits and communication stipend.
  4. Paid leave: Each employee is required to work 225 days. Depending on the year, this usually equates to 36 days of annual leave including bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time).
  5. Office location with hybrid working: Wasafiri is a supportive employer. We encourage hybrid working typically 2 days per week in an attractive and comfortable Wasafiri Office in Westlands, Nairobi. NB: Applicants will be shortlisted if they can demonstrate they have the right to live and work in Kenya.
  6. Report: The position will report to our Food Systems and Inclusive Growth Portfolio Lead, a role that is expected to be filled by September 2022.
